For the fifth year running, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) is ranked the #1 resort in North America by Forbes Magazine. “Being the #1 Resort is a huge honor for Jackson Hole as Forbes takes into account the entire resort experience from terrain and snowfall to lifts and ease of access,” stated JHMR President, Jerry Blann.
Along with Jackson Hole, four additional Mountain Collective Resorts landed in the Forbes Top 10 this year including Alta, Snowbird, Whistler-Blackcomb and Aspen. “It is exciting to see Mountain Collective resorts dominate half of this list; it is a true testament to the independent spirit and commitment to high quality ski experiences which The Mountain Collective was founded upon,” noted Blann. Neighboring Wyoming ski resort Grand Targhee also made the list, ranking at number nine.
With a storm system descending upon the Tetons today and tomorrow, JHMR is pleased to kick off the 50th anniversary winter season with a Thanksgiving Day opening, Thursday, November 26th. Opening day is followed by a fun and festive Flashback Friday celebration on November 27th, when lift tickets will be $6, the original price for skiing at JHMR when the resort first opened in 1965. The resort will also offer $6 rentals and waxes at JH Sports, Teton Village Sports and Hoback Sports, plus free ski and snowboard lessons (one hour clinics available, sign up at the base that day for a time). Live music at the base of the gondola and $6 food and drink specials from Teton Village restaurants will be going all day long.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s 50th Anniversary
Over its nearly 50 year history, Jackson Hole has evolved but the spirit remains bold and wild, as the last true bastion for all those who dare to live this dream. JHMR was kick-started in the early 1960’s by the passionate dream of its founders, Paul McCollister and Alex Morley. From humble and rugged beginnings, this dream was fully realized decades later with the ingenuity of a family with historic ties to the Cowboy State. In their tenure of ownership since 1992, the Kemmerer family has invested greatly in the prosperity of Jackson Hole and the state of Wyoming. With vast improvements to operations, lifts and infrastructure, they have ushered JHMR into its present-day luster and world-wide iconic status as “The Big One.” Next winter, JHMR is celebrating that “Born to Be Wild” spirit all season long with events, a video web series and movie produced by Teton Gravity Research, and ‘The Crags’ will undergo a transformation with the construction and December 19th, 2015 opening of the brand new Teton Lift. This new high-speed quad lift will carry skiers and riders 1,600 vertical feet to an area that has previously only been accessible via hiking.
