The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and with the recent snow in Jackson Hole we are getting excited for ski season. Less than a month away!
Over 50 years of operation, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) has evolved from a remote and rugged Wyoming outpost into a world-class adventure destination. Despite the area’s growth in popularity and accessibility, its spirit remains true - bold, independent, wild and free. Jackson Hole is the authentic winter playground for those who dare to live the mountain dream.
The vision for a lift access resort in the heart of the Tetons was kick-started in the early 1960’s by two passionate skiers - founders Paul McCollister and Alex Morley. From humble beginnings, the construction of the iconic Aerial Tram introduced some of the most extreme ski terrain in the western hemisphere to a willing group of hardcore thrill-seekers. Jackson Hole quickly earned the reputation as the proving ground and epicenter of extreme skiing in North America.
While this foundation remains, the mountain’s legacy continues with the ingenuity of a family with historic ties to the Cowboy State. In their tenure of ownership since 1992, the Kemmerer family has invested greatly in the transformation of Jackson Hole into a world-class destination resort. In doing so, they have maintained the authentic experience and pristine natural terrain while making vast improvements to guest experience, operations, lifts and infrastructure. From the construction and opening of the new 100-person Aerial Tram in 2008, to the focus on expanding intermediate and beginner terrain, the Kemmerer’s have ushered Jackson Hole Mountain Resort into its present-day luster and worldwide iconic status as “The Big One.”
In the 2015-16 winter season, JHMR is celebrating its 50th anniversary in style with exciting events all winter-long, the opening of the new Teton Lift, as well as new dining experiences. While saluting the first 50 years of the resort that was “Born to Be Wild; this celebratory year also marks the continuation of JHMR’s core values into the next 50 years of skiing and riding in the Tetons. We hope you will join us this year for what is going to be a remarkable ski season!
